A Winter Poem
Today’s post is based on a writing prompt I shared in a previous Daily Drafts & Dialogues post. Keep reading to see what I wrote, and to access more writing prompts.
What I wrote below is based on the following writing prompt: Write a poem about a winter scene or something that happens during winter, which can be something literal or metaphorical.
A Winter Night Reflection
It is cold outside so I am warm inside shielded from the frigid breeze I know is traveling across the frozen earth packed tight around the naked woods as I smell the sweet and savory hickory crackle as the fresh and sturdy evergreens I sense underneath the bare moonlight cast a shadow amidst the gleam and twinkle I see in the ornaments dangling on the resuscitated sticky fir tree boughs I adorn with sparkling strands of tinsel reflecting off the snow on the window I feel outlined with frost and ice as it forms around the tempered frame of glass I touch that displays the glow of the hearth heating a pot of spiced mulled wine I taste on the tip of my tongue so that I am warm inside only while sensing it is cold outside.
I might revise, edit, or add to this draft in the future. Stay tuned.
