At Sea: A Poem
Today’s post is based on a writing prompt I shared in a previous Daily Drafts & Dialogues post. Keep reading to see what I wrote, and to access more writing prompts.
What I wrote below is based on the following writing prompt: Write a poem about whatever comes to mind when you think about being at sea. This writing prompt is intended to spur your creativity. You don’t need to be an expert poet to feel inclined to complete it. Just experiment with words a little bit and see what happens.
Distant water Distant dreams Distant space To reach fantasies Toward wild boundlessness Empty fullness Underneath the deep blue sky Of familiarity Open water Open dreams Open space To form memories Across wild vastness Full emptiness Above the choppy glass surface Of discovery Nearby water Nearby dreams Nearby space To be fully present In ebbing extensiveness Symbolic stasis Inside the perpetual horizon Of the sea
I might edit or add to this drafted poem in the future. For now, however, be sure to share your own drafted poems in the comments so we can chat about what we’ve written.
