Criticisms Into Curiosities
Today’s post is based on a writing prompt I shared in a previous Daily Drafts & Dialogues post: Turn Criticisms into Curiosity. Keep reading to see what I wrote, and to access more writing prompts.
What I wrote below is based on the following writing prompt: Write ten critical statements, then convert those ten statements into questions that are more curious than judgmental.
I highly recommend completing this writing prompt. It’s more challenging than it seems at first, trust me!
Classic literature is the only literature worth reading.
How do Classics deepen and expand our understanding of literature and what it’s capable of accomplishing, and how do they limit that understanding?
I’m lazy and incapable.
What doable, daily steps can I follow to tap into my fullest potential right now, tomorrow, the next day, the day after that, and all the days after that?
Formal education and taking classes for anything is a waste of time.
In what ways can formal education help me and my goals, and in what ways might taking certain classes be superfluous for me and my goals?
That artwork is weird and ugly.
How did that artwork make me feel or experience the world differently?
No one will ever understand me.
How can I better understand myself so that I might attract or seek out people who want to understand me better?
That movie is dumb.
Who was that movie’s intended audience and why didn’t I enjoy it?
I failed. I am a failure.
What can I learn and use from what didn’t work this time, and what did, to keep going, so that I can see this experience as a stepping stone for where I’m trying to go and what I’m trying to do?
That food tastes terrible.
What didn’t I enjoy about what I just ate, and why?
A.I. is going to make our brains rot.
In what ways can A.I. help us, and in what ways can A.I. hinder us?
That book is so bad.
What didn’t I enjoy about the book, why, and who might enjoy it?
I might revise, edit, or add to this draft in the future. Stay tuned. And be sure to leave a comment to share what you wrote if you also completed this writing prompt, or if you want to start a dialogue.

Today’s Writing Prompt
Writing Prompt: Taking a Stand
Write a journal entry or piece of flash fiction about someone (this can be you) who is taking a stand, either literally or figuratively or both.
Writing Tip:
Before you begin writing, take a moment to consider who is taking a stand and why, and why taking a stand is important to them. What, or for whom, are they taking a stand? And are they standing alone?
