Daily Drafters Community Chat Guidelines
This community exists to inspire, support, and connect writers through daily writing prompts and shared reflections. Read the guidelines you're agreeing to here.
Purpose
This community exists to inspire, support, and connect writers through daily writing prompts and shared reflections. The goal is to foster a welcoming, respectful space where writers can grow, experiment, and celebrate one another’s creativity and reflections.
Core Values
Respect: Every writer’s voice matters. Engage with kindness and empathy.
Creativity: Encourage experimentation and originality.
Support: Offer constructive feedback and celebrate others’ progress.
Integrity: Honor the privacy and ownership of others’ work.
Reciprocity: Give as much as you take. Try to read, respond, and uplift others as often as you share your own work for consideration and feedback.
Participation
Sharing: Members are encouraged to share responses to the daily prompts located at the bottom of Daily Drafts & Dialogues posts, but can also share their writing not related to the daily prompts (post drafts, flash fiction, scenes from a WIP, poems, articles, etc.). Posts can be full pieces, excerpts, or reflections on the writing process. However, please note that shorter excerpts will be easier for other members to reveiew and engage with.
Feedback: Offer feedback only when invited. Keep comments specific, kind, and focused on the writing, not the writer.
Engagement: Respond thoughtfully to others’ posts. Acknowledge effort and creativity.
Frequency: Participate as often as desired—daily, weekly, or occasionally. Consistency helps build community. However, please try not to submit more than 2-3 posts for feedback per week so community members don’t get overwhelmed.
Giving and Receiving Feedback
Keep all feedback polite, positive, and constructive. The goal is to help each other grow, not to discourage or criticize harshly.
Positive critique examples:
“I really liked the imagery in this line—it made the scene vivid. Maybe you could expand that feeling in the next paragraph.”
“The dialogue feels natural. You might try adding a bit more internal thought to deepen the character’s motivation.”
Negative critique examples (to avoid):
“This doesn’t make sense.”
“I didn’t like it.”
“You should write more like [another author].”
Always focus on what works and what could be improved, not on personal preferences or comparisons.
Respectful Communication
Use inclusive, considerate language.
Avoid hate speech, discrimination, or personal attacks.
Do not share explicit, violent, or triggering content without clear warnings.
Disagree respectfully; debate ideas, not individuals.
Keep the tone encouraging and professional at all times.
Privacy, Copyright, and Ownership
Share only your own writing unless you have explicit permission from the author.
By posting in this chat, members agree that their work may be shared within this chat thread only, and they also give their permission to have their work featured in other Daily Drafts & Dialogues publications only (with proper credit— you will always get credit for your work).
Members retain full copyright ownership of their work.
Do not repost, screenshot, or distribute others’ writing outside this chat or Daily Drafts & Dialogues publications.
Respect that shared drafts are works in progress and may be vulnerable.
Self-Promotion
Avoid self-promotion unless it is specifically requested or relevant to a discussion.
Dedicated opportunities to share personal projects and published work will be available in weekly dialogue threads outside the daily prompts.
Members who use the chat primarily for self-promotion or link sharing without engaging with others’ work will be considered in violation of community guidelines and may be removed.
Notifications and Access
Daily writing prompts are included at the bottom of Daily Drafts & Dialogues posts, where you will also have the opportunity to access the Daily Drafters Community Chat.
If daily notifications become overwhelming, members can silence chat notifications and still access all prompts anytime via the ‘Join chat’ button in the Community Notes section of Daily Drafts & Dialogues posts.
Please note: Silencing notifications may cause members to miss other exclusive content, bonus prompts, and weekly dialogue threads where they can share their writing and connect with others in real time.
Moderation
Moderators may remove posts or comments that violate these guidelines.
Repeated or serious violations may result in removal from the community.
Questions or concerns about moderation can be raised privately with moderators.
Encouraged Practices
Celebrate milestones and creative breakthroughs.
Ask open-ended questions to spark discussion.
Share relevant writing tips, resources, or inspiration that may help others.
Keep the focus on creativity, growth, and mutual encouragement.
Closing Note
This community thrives on generosity, curiosity, and respect. Every contribution—whether a story, a comment, or a word of encouragement—helps build a space where writers can flourish together under the shared spirit of Daily Drafts & Dialogues.
