The Breath of Dreams
Today’s post is based on a writing prompt I shared in a previous Daily Drafts & Dialogues post. Keep reading to see what I wrote, and to access more writing prompts. [Ed. from the Archive.]
What I wrote below is based on the following writing prompt: Write an inspirational poem, or free write, about hope or dreaming.
The Breath of Dreams
Dreams are never realized in a hurry, while panting. Or when you are too busy to pause and appreciate their ethereal matter. They never come to pass exactly when you want, or precisely the way you imagined. Right now. Without shambles, untattered. No. They are more resilient and mysterious than that. Entirely unstructured. Without edges or holes. More real. Impalpable. Perceptible. Once they are conjured by your breath, they follow their own flight plan, their own path, and take on a whole life of their own. In the wind. You can feel them and sense them. Obstruct them, harness them. But that's about it. There's no owning them or grounding them completely. No. Not once they are in the air, as the air surrounding you. Never to be tethered and tied. They are indifferent to artificial kites and anchors and childlike demands. But gravitate toward peace and calm. Love and presence. Unmoored. Not unmoved. You see. The unseen. You can only tap in, to whatever, wherever, however, whenever, they coalesce, carefully. As they are. They will. But you can't will them to exist and form by way of an artificial manmade clock and trap them in a tower. Or lock them in a dungeon. Dreams are not of this world. As they pass through. They breathe. They float. The world cannot hold them. You cannot hold them. Relax. Trust the breeze. Hope. Be still. Have faith. Feel. Inhale deeper. To metabolize your inhaled, exhaled dream. Believe. Be free.
I might revise, edit, or add to this draft in the future. Stay tuned.
