The following list only includes books I read in 2025 that were also published in 2025. I would not be able to keep this list to only six books if it were to also include books that were published before 2025. Let us know what you would add to this list in the comments! What books have you read and loved this year?
Best Fiction of 2025 (so far)
Book Review: Death of the Author
Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor is so much more than a science fiction novel, as it beautifully illustrates the fundamental element of humanity: storytelling. This novel will take you on an emotional and intellectual journey you have likely never been on before, while remaining very engaging—it’s a page-turner that will have you thinking about lif…

Book Review: The Dream Hotel
The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami is one of those books that will stick with you long after you read it because you will find yourself relating to its main character’s frustrating and unfair circumstances long after you set it down. Yet some readers will certainly be able to relate to Sara and her plight inside Madison more vividly than others, especially…

Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall
My book review for this book is coming soon! For now, I can say that this is the first book to make me ugly cry since I read The Women by Kristin Hannah. And I don’t cry all that easily when I read books. I am also a sucker for a dramatic love triangle, and there is a heartwrenching one in this book. In the book, the author also includes a murder mystery on a farm in a small town, which garnered my full attention. Think Where the Crawdads Sing meets The Notebook when you think of this book.

Book Review: Careless People
Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism by Sarah Wynn-Williams is a book that will shock you by not really being all that shocking in the end, once you get a chance to read it and fully digest it. At times it reads like a scandalous tabloid. And at other times it reads like a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your …

Book Review: The Sirens' Call
The Sirens' Call: How Attention Became the World's Most Endangered Resource by Christopher L. Hayes is a book that will have you reflecting on what you pay attention to (especially online, and on social media), why you pay attention to what you pay attention to, and why it’s so important you reflect on what you pay attention to on a regular basis. It’s …

America, América: A New History of the New World by Greg Grandin
My book review for this book is coming soon! For now, let’s just say that this is one of the most important history books coming out this year, if not ever, that you must read. It is as engaging as it is enlightening to read, as it details how the histories of North and South America influenced and engaged and pushed each other into existence. Trust me, you haven’t read the history of the Americas told like this before— in a way that is so captivatingly raw, comprehensive, and realistic.
