What I'm Thankful For in 2025
Whether you celebrate the US Thanksgiving holiday or not, today is as good as any other to consider all you’re thankful for this year. So, here’s a list of what I’m most thankful for in 2025…
I am thankful for all the people who have loved and helped their neighbors, shielded them from arbitrary, violent threats, detentions, and deportations, even when it came at a great cost to them.
I am thankful for those who are working tirelessly to keep families and communities safe, together, and fed.
I am thankful for all the individuals out there who still believe in what the US Constitution says and represents and are willing to stand up for its essential ethos when it matters most.
I am thankful for those willing to help a stranger in need when they could easily look the other way.
I am thankful for those who celebrate and appreciate the little joys and triumphs of everyday life as much as they celebrate the major milestones they reach in life.
I am thankful for the innovators and engineers who are looking for ways to keep our planet habitable, despite the inconsistent support and funding they receive.
I am thankful for those who decide to live in accordance with what they hope for, instead of what they fear.
I am thankful for those who are compassionate with themselves, as that allows them to be compassionate with others.
I am thankful for those who are sifting through the noise and chaos to find peace and understanding, particularly with those they disagree with and dislike.
I am thankful for new friends and networks and opportunities for spiritual growth, as well as older friends who keep me grounded.
I am thankful for my health.
I am thankful to be in a position to help and support others.
I am thankful for my husband and pets.
I am thankful for those who create and bring color, art, and music into our world.
I am thankful to live near parks and open space, as well as a major city with museums, theaters, and active civic life.
I am thankful for all the teachers and librarians out there who are promoting literacy and free speech.
I am thankful for all the books I can access for free at my local library.
I am thankful that I get to do what I love most every day: read and write.
I am thankful for those who care for the disabled, elderly, and young, even when it is hard and thankless.
I am thankful for those who choose intention, patience, and kindness, instead of thoughtless, reactive violence.
I am thankful for all the people working toward a better future for themselves and those they love, as well as those they may not even know.
I am thankful for all the storytellers out there who inspire us to keep going every day despite, or maybe because of, all the setbacks and pandemonium we are experiencing.
And most of all, I am thankful for those who have shown me why it’s important to pause, reflect, and be thankful for all the things and humans I mentioned above.
I know, I know. Completing this exercise may seem hokey at first, but trust me, expressing gratitude on a regular basis, especially in today’s world, will make you feel a lot less stressed and more resilient. And while your list may look nothing like mine, I want to know: What are you thankful for this year?
